Students of Lama Yeshe Jinpa are frequently asked to give talks about Buddha Dharma from whatever level of realization they have been so far able to achieve. Lama Jinpa has many students who are at a variety of practice and study levels. There should be something for everyone on this page.

Student Video Talks

When Lion’s Roar Dharma Center had to close Do Nga Dargey Temple in April of 2020 because of COVID-19, we went to live streaming for our talks and practices, and recorded the talks. These are those videos.

Dirk Johnson: Yeshe Tsogyal

On January 3, 2021, sangha member Dirk Johnson spoke about Yeshe Tsogyal (8th Century CE), whom many consider to be the first Tibetan, male or female, to achieve enlightenment. In one way or another, virtually all Dzogchen lineages trace back to her. Her importance to the establishment and continuation of Buddhism in Tibet is incalculable.

James Meyer: Motivation to Practice

On December 6, 2020, sangha member James Meyer explored motivation to practice. Whether we are trying to go on an exciting vacation, looking for a new job, helping a family member thru college or trying to liberate our mind from mental afflictions and confusion, motivation is key to maintaining ongoing effort and accomplishing our goals.

Morris Newman: Buddhism and Hasidism

On November 22, 2020, sangha member Morris Newman talked about how Buddhism has many points of comparison with other spiritual paths, including the mystical Jewish tradition of Hasidism. As in Buddhism, Hasidism relies heavily on an oral tradition of anecdotes and saying of celebrated spiritual leaders. Morris, who spent six years living and studying in a Hasidic community in his 20s, retells many of the stories he heard personally, and relates them to Dharma practice.

Autumn Payne: Daily Life and Obstacles as the Path

On November 8, 2020, sangha member Autumn Payne shared a look inside a her busy life. She's a mother of two young children, a business owner, an educator, a wife and a refuge student of Lama Jinpa. Finding time for meditation, also called, the "training" is challenging, but the opportunity for Buddhist practice when life is busy is plenty. In this talk, Autumn will explore how the dharma is practiced in her daily life and how obstacles can become the way of the path.

Susan Farrar: Finding Bodhicitta

On November 1, 2020, sangha member Susan Farrar explored, "Finding Bodhicitta: I know I want to know, but I'm not too sure what it is, so I'm seeking it out. By listening again to Lama Jinpa's dharma talks and LRDC community members' talks and stories, I'm hearing a whisper of what it might be."

Student Audio Recordings

Below is a playlist of all of the student audio recordings available through Lion’s Roar. If you wish to download any of the recordings, right click on the recording in the playlist and choose “Save Link As”.

This page is undergoing continual revision at this time in order to make the page more usable, so it might look somewhat different the next time you visit. More recordings are also being added. If you have questions or suggestions about this page (or if you notice errors) please contact Dirk Johnson at Please use the subject line “Audio Recordings on the LRDC Website”.

All 2020 Audio Recordings

After we closed the temple due to COVID-19 concerns, all Lion’s Roar Dharma Center talks have taken place online using Google Meet. These video talks have been recorded and uploaded to the Lion’s Roar Dharma Center YouTube Channel.  The student talks from this channel are added to the Student Video Talks section above.

The first, scrollable list, contains all of the 2020 recordings that have been uploaded to SoundCloud. The list will be updated in the near future to contain only student recordings, but for now all of the audio recordings are in this listing. The oldest recording is first. You can scroll down to the most recent recording. The SoundCloud widget is proving to be a bit difficult for the display of a long playlist. For now, it might (or might not) be easier to listen to the playlist on the Lion’s Roar Dharma Center SoundCloud site:

All 2019 Recordings

The second, scrollable list, contains all of the 2019 recordings that have been uploaded to SoundCloud. For now, it might (or might not) be easier to listen to the playlist on the Lion’s Roar Dharma Center SoundCloud site:

All  Recordings Before 2019

The list below includes all public recordings from 2016 -2018 and continues to be displayed in the HTML5 playlist format. The recordings are hosted on this website and have not been edited to include information such as copyright, title, speaker, and publisher, nor have introductions and signoffs yet been added. These recordings are being migrated to SoundCloud and one SoundCloud playlist will appear for each year.
