As part of our Losar practice commitment dedicated to our precious Lama Yeshe Jinpa, on Saturday, March 7, 2020, we will engage in the recitation and meditation of Barchad Lamsel in six 50-minute sessions, with a 10-minute break between sessions and a one hour potluck lunch. Noble silence will be maintained during breaks in order to extend the meditative power of the practice sessions into the post-meditation periods of the breaks.

If you wish to join us, please email Andria about the potluck lunch and what your contribution will be. Participation in the Potluck lunch is not required for participation in the practice.

Join us as we recite and accumulate this profound prayer to remove obstacles from the path as our birthday offering for Lama Yeshe Jinpa. His birthday comes at the end of June.

The Barchad Lamsel (“Dispelling Obstacles on the Path”) is part of a profound terma (Tibetan, “hidden treasure”) of the great 19th Century Rimé master Chokgyur Lingpa (1829-1870), who is also considered to be one of the great Tertöns.

The Barchad Lamsel forms part of the Guru Yoga section of the preliminaries of Chkgyur Lingpa’s great Barchey Künsel  terma cycle. Of the Barchey Künsel  cycle, the great Rimé master and Tertön, the 1st Jamyang Khyentse Wangpo (1820-1892) said,

This terma cycle is the essence of the heart of Padmakara, the knower of the three times, and is the most unique treasure concealed under the earth in Tibet. It is like the great treasury of the universal monarch, completely and unmistakenly filled with all the means for accomplishing the supreme and common siddhis….

In short, it is like the extracted essence of the meaning of all development and completion stages, as well as the activity applications of the tantra and sadhana sections.

Barchad Lamsel (Dispelling Obstacles on the Path)

Guru Rinpoche, embodiment of the Buddhas of the three times
Guru who is Great Bliss, lord of all accomplishments
Guru who is the Dynamic and Wrathful Tamer of Maras, dispeller of all hindrances —
I pray to you. Bestow your blessings.
Please remove all outer, inner, and secret obstacles,
and grant your blessings that our wishes be spontaneously accomplished.
