Ngari Institute’s Great Compassion Sand Mandala Tour raises money for disadvantaged children in Ladakh, India;;;
SACRAMENTO, CA (Oct. 8, 2024) – The Sacramento community is invited to join in unique, transformative and fun Tibetan cultural experiences for the whole family.
Geshe Tsewang Dorje of Ngari Institute and fellow monks will bring healing energy and artistry to Sacramento this October with two special events: a Compassion Buddha Mandala from October 16-19 at Spiritual Life Center, located at 2201 Park Towne Circle, and a Medicine Buddha Mandala from Oct. 24 – 27 at Lion’s Roar Dharma Center, located at 3240 B Street.
The events offer an opportunity to experience Tibetan Buddhist sacred arts, deepen interfaith connections, and explore the mystical energy of the sand mandala creation.
The event is a fundraiser for the children of Ngari Institute’s Foundation, a Buddhist Dharma Center and school located in the Himalayan region of Leh, Ladakh.
The event is free and open to everyone at both locations. Highlights of the event include:
- Hands-on participation in the creation of a sand mandala! Everyone will have the opportunity to assist in this intricate and sacred process.
- Himalayan gifts and sacred art for purchase: A variety of gifts and sacred Tibetan art will be available for purchase to support the Ngari Institute’s charitable projects.
- Meditation and blessing: Geshe Tsewang Dorje will lead a powerful Medicine Buddha blessing for compassion and healing.
- Interfaith connection: This event invites people of all faiths to come together, celebrate shared values, and build bridges of understanding across spiritual traditions.
The construction of the mandalas will begin with opening ceremonies at noon on October 16 at Spiritual Life Center and at noon on October 24 at Lion’s Roar Dharma Center.
Each day, the monks will continue their work culminating in special closing ceremonies where the mandala’s sacred sand is swept away and offered as a blessing for all beings everywhere. Geshe Tsewang is available for personal prayers and blessings.

About Lion’s Roar Dharma Center
Lion’s Roar was co-founded by Lama Yeshe Jinpa and Geshe Losang Gyatso in 1992 and officially became a non-profit in 1998. Lama Jinpa received direct lineage transmission from Geshe Gyatso in 1995 and is one of the few Western lamas thus far recognized within the Gelugpa lineage of Tibetan Buddhism. Our practice lineage is in the tradition of His Holiness the 14th Dalai Lama and of the Gelupa lineage founder, Lama Tsong Khapa. Following His Holiness’s example, we are committed to a traditional Buddhist practice, and we promote His Holiness’s vision of maintaining the lineage while being open and non-sectarian in our outreach and honoring all dharma paths.
