Meditation is primarily a journey to self discovery and acceptance. We practice mindful, nonjudgmental awareness extending our warmth and openness to others. With the discovery that our goodness is indestructible, we give birth to a vision of our world as sacred and completely workable.
As a discipline, formal meditation is a form of yoga that develops calmness and clarity. This stable and balanced foundation allows the natural quality of investigation or insight to develop into panoramic awareness. Meditation is a way to discover our tender, loving hearts, our Buddha nature.
Mindfulness Meditation Support Group
Practice mindfulness meditation and have the opportunity to share your path in a therapeutic, safe, and confidential space. General Format of Group: THEORY (mindfulness instruction and discussion) PRACTICE (silent or partial guided meditation) PROCESS (what are you bringing to the cushion?)
“What is exciting about this group is that we can practice meditation together in a supportive community and know that it is also appropriate to share personal stories, what we may be suffering with, and how we can heal.”
This is a donation-based group, no one is turned away for inability to pay (Suggested donations $5-$15). Directed by Lama Jinpa and facilitated by: Colleen and Sabrina. For more information please call (916) 224-2163 or join our Meetup Group at: www.meetup.com/Mindfulness-Meditation-for-Inner-Peace/
Please check the calendar for dates, times and location.
Interested in developing and strengthening your mindfulness practice? Whether we have been practicing for 10 days, 10 months or 10 years, we always approach meditation with beginners mind. In this informal evening sit, Beginning Meditation provides guidelines for posture and developing non-judgemental moment-to-moment awareness. How we approach the path is important to developing a healthy practice and this class offers the an opportunity to create space in our lives, ask questions and share experiences with others on the path with us.
At Lion’s Roar we like to say that any practice has to have the Four Wheels of a Chariot to be a healthy practice:
- Mindfulness – Staying present and noticing when our minds wander.
- Relaxation – Developing rhythmic or diaphragmatic breathing.
- Friendliness – Humor and kindness towards ourselves. Accepting and becoming our own best friends.
- Openness – Creating space to experience something new. Adapting to our moods and to the chaotic, ever changing word around us.
