Venerable Tenzin Yeshe
Within in a year of receiving Refuge from Lama Jinpa, Venerable Tenzin Yeshe made the decision to ordain as a Buddhist nun in His Holiness the XIV Dalai Lama’s tradition. Waiting the requested five years, then receiving permissions from her teachers, Lama Jinpa and Geshe Damchoe, Ven Tenzin attended monastic training at Sravasti Abbey. In 2011 she was accepted by Jhado Tulku Rinpoche for ordination. Jhado Rinpoche, Kenchen Rinpoche, Geshe Damchoe and the requisite number of qualified monks bestowed her monastic ordination rites and she became the first Buddhist nun in the Tibetan Buddhist tradition to be ordained in Sacramento, CA and become Lion’s Roar Dharma Center’s first resident nun.
Ven. Tenzin is a native of Sacramento, has Bachelors of Arts degrees in Philosophy and Psychology. In 2012, she completed Geshi Tashi Tsering’s certificated two year program “The Foundation of Buddhist Thought” through Jamyang Buddhist Centre in London. She has attended many teachings and empowerments by H.H. the XIV Dalai Lama and other high lamas in the Gelug tradition.
With a desire to be a benefit to those in the most violent of environments she is a volunteer chaplain at Folsom State Prison through the Buddhist Pathways Prison Project. She has attended many group retreats and practices solo retreats. She has a genuine, simple, direct and often humorous approach to life’s surprises. She is available for private interviews and meditation instructions.
